Where Has The Tall Grass Gone?
O where has the tall grass gone?
O the wind that moaned lonesome and long?
O where are the buffalo, the beaver, the deer?
O where are the wolves, the eagle, the great grizzly bear?
O where has the West of the whole world gone?
Once there wild horses had places.
Once there were wide open spaces.
Once there was wildness outside the front door.
Once there was grass one could barely see o'er.
Once... O where has the tall grass gone?
O the sun and the rain and the snow
O the pilgrim, the men and the women — you know,
O they strove for something so great.
O what do we strive for of late?
O where has the tall grass gone?
